I have a feeder for finches that catches the seed hulls at the bottom and doesn't sit in the seed. Is there anything like this for the larger birds like the bourkes. I have the tidy seed keeper but that only keeps the seed from going everywhere. The hulls stay in the food and I feel like a lot of food gets wasted when I toss it. Plus it's hard to tell if they have food left in there that's still good. Any help?

When I had my cockatoo, I bought a "Bird-Zerk" feeder for him that contained the mess and collected hulls in a compartment. Here's their website: http://www.bird-zerk.com/index.html. It was amazing for the cockatoo. Maybe others have had experience with this with smaller birds - but would imagine the smaller size would work just as well....

Angie, bourkes and grasskeets like to forage in dishes, but as you know get messy and when they flutter about it goes everywhere. Try one of the feeders above but also include a dish on the floor next to it until they get use to eating out of it. They are very curious and very smart and should learn quickly.

Mine like to eat and travel with the food...so feeders did not help. they also like to rumage through the food to find a favorite type. Watch that the are getting enough with feeders, or if they are knocking seeds out just to get the kind they like.

Another option is a dish inside of a cat pan...it may help with some of the dropped seed.
