new budgie

Post by PrettyBird » Thu Nov 01, 2012 4:52 pm

Well we have another addition to our house lol. My daughter (whose 5) has been asking and asking for a budgie. So today we went and picked up her little pet.

She chose a lavender colored male budgie. Hes still very young, and hes pretty cute too!
She has named this little budgie "Jingles"

I will upload a picture once we get back from the petstore, to get him some food and such.

*p.s..my husbands gonna kill me  :-SS

:) thank you! My husband didnt really say much so all is well lol

I finally got some pics of the new budgie "Jingles"

Here he is, and of course my parrotlet Bee Bee is curious
Image

I decided to let him out, because they were reaching for eachother through the cage wire. This was their first meeting. Bee Bee surprisingly is very very gentle with him, and pretty much took to him right away! She kept saying "kiss, kiss" to him. It was so cute!
Image

Fast friends! She started preening him
Image

This little baby budgie is pretty under weight and has some feathers lost, but Im confident he will be back to full health and chubbier in no time. I doubt hes ever gotten the food Ive been giving him (egg food, veggies and such) He seems very happy, especially with Bee Bee around. And that makes me happy.

Lovely start to birding for your 5 year old =D> =D>
Bird's seem happy with each other's company , not sure I would fully trust parrotlett with him yet , when he improve's in condition and start's asserting himself around her feather's may fly :shock:I do hope nothing does happen for everybody's sake .

Very cute pictures, but as Mick mentioned, definitely keep a close eye on this for a while. Bob

Thank you :)

I am fully aware of any "dangers" with them. I watch them closely and they arent left unattended.
And they have their own cages.
I always let Bee Bee out of her cage, and she usually stays on top and plays their all day long. I will be doing the same thing with the budgie, and letting my daughter interact with him.
But I will keep a close eye on the two birds and make sure nothing happens. So far so good.

I agree, I think its great for her to have her own little bird.
I too had a budgie when I was her age.

Pains in the you know what as normal. Lol, I wonder if they have eggs or chicks as they spend alot of time in the box. I can't even stick my hand in the cage to change water without the hen trying to eat me so I stay away. The male makes kissing sounds though! :D

Jingles is settling in our house, and is surprisingly pretty tame! He lets my daughter pet him on the back and tail.
Bee Bee has been preening him like crazy, and hes looking alot better!
Heres a picture of him
Image

annnd of course, Bee Bee getting in the picture
Image

I was giving Bee Bee some egg food, and broccoli and Jingles came over to have a taste. Looks like he likes it!

Those two take turns playing on each others cage top. Today they are on top of Bee Bees cage playing with her toys and preening.
