3-7 New Javas and Scarlet Chested Parakeets

Post by cindy » Fri Mar 08, 2013 8:43 pm

They are home.... 2 pairs of Scarlet Chested parakeets. Hens are Cinnamon 8 months old, males are Split to Cinnamon 4 months old. The male scarlets are still coloring out...can't wait for that red chest to come through. One hen has red on her underside.

Still to come a pair of white javas and young. The young I will handfeed out.

Yes, very much so Bob! I pick up the whites this Wednesday, looking foreard to it. Handfeeding and taming little javas should prove interesting!

The males song reminds me a little of a canary song.

Scarlet hens do better after a yr old closer to 14 months. The hens are 8 months now so I am waiting until late September to early October.

The javas can be bred now, they started a clutch right before I picked them up.

The Scarlets are beautiful Cindy! Will that female a have purple/lilac front on her face because she's cinnamon? If so, that would be gorgeous. I can't tell if its just the picture coloring that is off, or if it is already purple/royal blue. Or maybe I'm just color blind?

The male is gorgeous. He's going to have an awesome firey colored chest! Are they fairly quiet? I've always wondered about scarlets. They are amoung my favorite parakeets.

Brady, the hens at the top of the thread are about 8 months old, since they are cinnamon that is about as dark as she will get. This is a great site for scarlets.... http://www.dillardsaviary.com/birds/sca ... parakeets/
