OPIE, FINDS A FOREVER HOME.

A tiny little Budgie all alone in the world.
Oh so cold and tired and hungry and terrified, flying from one leafless tree to another, chased by Sparrows and Magpies and Crows. No where to go, no one to turn to for help. Marching up and down cold empty city sidewalks, and across yellowing lawns. Struggling through piles of leaves bigger than himself....
Can't go any further, too tired...

Caught by giant hands and taken into a warm place.... but not wanted here either. Transferred to a big unfamiliar building in a dark box. Finally some food and water and warmth, and the sounds of my own kind, but they are strangers and also scared. They chat with their friends, but have no words of welcome for me.

The giant, scarey creatures, tell me that my name is Opie. It's not my real name of course, but I don't mind. Opie is a nice name, I guess...
So I sit in the cage they put me into and wait for My Giants to come and take me home, but no one comes and a long, long time goes by.

A strange giant comes into the big cage where my little cage sits. She looks at me and smiles. She talks to the big Green Amazon Lady and they have a long conversation. They laugh and seem to have a good time together. This giant seems to understand birds, so she can't be too bad and the Amazon Lady seems to like her a lot.

She picks me up, all the while talking softly, and places me in a little cage, in sweet smelling hay... and oh what's this... spray millet? I like spray millet. My little cage is covered by a warm little blanket and we go on a long long trip.

When the blanket comes off, I'm in a strange new place... birds are singing and it's warm and bright....

A new cage with everything that a bird could ask for, accept... Wait a minute, what's that sound? I hear one of my own kind, and she's calling a sweet welcome, so happy to see me. My cage sits next to hers and we can talk.

She tells me that her name is Freebee, and she's the most beautiful sight I have ever seen in my life. I tell her that I'm Opie, and that I have been lost for a long time. She tells me not to worry, as she looks at me with her lovely black eyes. She tells me that this is a good place. She tells me...... she tells me....

"Opie, you're home".

Used to do a lot of writing in my time, not children books though.

As soon as I figured out that letters made words and words made sentences, a whole new world opened up for me. I think I was four or five at the time. I have l loved reading and writing ever since, and that was a long time ago.

Thanks Folks.
Freebee and Opie are still in the process of getting aquainted. Today Freebee gets to check Opie out a little more closely as you will see in the pictures. I don't think Opie has clipped wings, so for now he's getting comfortable in his little cage. He is shy around people, so It's going to be a slow process.

Opie, is actually a little boy. I don't know how old. As mentioned above, he was a stray and no one came to claim him.
