Soft food for Love Birds

Post by steve » Sun Nov 30, 2014 5:57 am

Hi all

I know this is a Finch Forum but I think that my Love birds have little ones. What soft food should I give the parents? Please help.

Regards
Steve

Yes, it's a finch forum, but we have so many members with other species that we set up separate sections of the forum where they could post questions about their other pets--All Things Hookbill, All Things Canary, and All Things Dove/Quail. I'll move this to the All Things Hookbill section, so it might be seen by those who also have Lovebirds.

Ideally if they do eat other foods , you could try bread , boiled eggs , boiled veggies , egg food and fresh greens.

My lovebirds aren't willing to try out any soft foods . They only have greens like coriander/cilantro , broccoli and spinach . I hope yours are more cooperative when it comes to their diet.

I haven't bred them until now , but my tiels who are equally fussy used to have egg food mixed in with their seeds. I slightly wet the seeds and made a mix with the egg food. I guess it worked as they went on to successful raise 5 chicks. Only issue is that you have to change it in a few hours as it tends to get spoilt quickly.

Make sure you have a mineral block and cuttlebone readily available too.
Good luck with the chicks :)

I give my lovebird dry egged as he won't eat the homemade version. He loves, loves, fresh veggies and some fruit too.

I gave my lovebirds the same fresh foods that I gave my finches and other birds.

Mine enjoyed egg food but only when they were in breeding mode.
I also offered cooked macaroni (but you need to remove it before it dries up), little bits of multigrain bread or corn bread, along with various fruits and veggies.
