Colt Nope this little guy is all his parent's, I have no desire to hand-feed him if the parents have it covered. Hopefully lots of playing and cuddling with him as a chick when he's a tad older will be enough to make a friend of him but if not, I'd rather he be a bird and be afraid of me than adore me and not know how to be a bird. Mom and Dad are good with nest checks so far.

I really wanted to take the first picture of my little guy at around a week old tonight but my camera has died. I ordered a new one on Ebay tonight but it will take a few days to arrive. :P But then pictures all around! His eyes just opened and he's so cute and helpless, a little pink roly-poly.

Handfeeding is not necessary to get tame budgies. Just spend a few minutes in a day handling and playing with it from the time it is 2 weeks old and you'll have a bird as tame as a handfed one. That way your chick can have the best of both worlds ; bird and human.

I did the same with all of my tiel and budgie chicks and had very friendly fledges :) .

Vinay do any of the birds you've raised in this way speak any words?

I don't really know to be honest.
I've only kept 2 out of 11 budgie chicks and 1 of 5 tiels .
Both the budgies I kept are females . I don't think female budgies are known to be good speakers. Plus all my tiels and budgies live outside in a large flight cage . I don't spend a lot of time any more training them. They seem quite happy with their flock so I leave them be.
The budgies are still extremely tame even though my interaction with them is minimal. I can still pick them or have them step up without any trouble. In fact because of their trusting nature , their parents and the other birds will all come to perch on my hands if I get them a treat .

The male tiel chick on the other hand doesn't talk but does whistle up a storm . I taught him a few tunes and the rest he picked up from his father as well as the wild bulbuls that live around my building.

Pictures! PICTURES!!!
Snap some on your cell and send them winging our way. I feel like I'm missing out on those precious baby days, ugh!

As mentioned above, I think spending time, and play, and cuddles, with lots of hands on rubs and neck scratchies will give you a tame little darling. :-)

Oh Dylan, he is adorable. Look at his teeny tiny tail.
Thanks for posting his picture. He's such a cutie, that just looking at him made me smile.

Sam, is a true toddler , bumbling here and there, what a little darling. His eyes aren't open yet, are they?
