New Addition A Pair of Turq. Grass Keets

Post by ranchnanny » Sun Jun 14, 2015 2:10 pm

I have wanted a pair of yellow turq. grass keets for a long time and finally got a pair on Sat. They are
so beautiful a bit flighty but I hope they will settle down.

Lovely.
They look identical to a yellow turk. pair I got a few weeks ago.
Mine came from a large outdoor aviary and are somewhat flighty now that they are indoors but show signs of settling down a tad. They are actually about the same for flightiness as the Scarlet Chested grass keets had up until recently so it isn't too bad.
My Bourkes of course are far calmer but that is the nature of that beast.

Paul-inAZ yes my Bourkes are very calm even when I open the cage door.
I have been watching the turqs. to make sure they are eating and drinking... they
have eaten all of the egg food and veggies I gave the yesterday but not much seed.

Sherry:
I would also say that mine are not big eaters when it comes to seed. They do eat seed but less than I expected. Overall, my Scarlets had much bigger appetites for everything -with the resultant bigger poops.
I haven't tried egg food but they will eat chunks [whole florets] of broccoli, occasional dried mealworm, and I've tried a small amount of pellets that they are not crazy about but will eat. They once in a while eat lettuce leaves -sometimes ignoring it- but seem to prefer bok choy.
We are each trying to figure the other out.

Paul-in AZ interesting that you said they don't eat lots of seed I have watched and
they haven't touched much seed...hmmm! They did eat all the egg food and the chopped up veggies they got yesterday.

I don't chop up the green veg.
Broccoli goes in as florets the size of my thumb. Lettuce torn into large chunks.
Mine also devour corn on the cob in sections an inch or two long.

Paul-in AZ do you cook the corn or serve it raw?
