? Add a budgie to a Neophema Splendida (Scarlet chest pair)?

Post by finchandlovebird » Sun Aug 02, 2015 8:49 am

I have a pair of Scarlett Chest Parakeets in a 62x40 flight. They are very happy & content, sitting on eggs which might hatch this week (if they're fertile)
I have always liked budgies & wondered if it would be ok to add one to their flight.....just for a little more activity & color & fun :?: :?: :?: :?: If so, would a male or female budgie be the right mix?

I have a pair of Splendids and three budgies in my outdoor aviary and they all get along fine. Not sure about your smaller environment. I wouldn't add budgies until your Splendids have reared their new babies. Don't know how they would take to the change while on the nest. Budgies are a LOT more active!

Totally agree with Jen.
I would not add Budgies until after babies are hatched, reared and weaned.

In my opinion, it's never a good idea to add new birds (of any species), into a situation where there is a nesting pair. I think new birds, can be a distraction at best, and can be viewed as a danger, or as invaders to be driven away at worst.

Just my opinion.

Two would be better than one or the single budgie will really drive the other birds to exhaustion.
