What will I use for bands???? I thought I read somewhere that you use parakeet size bands.....what size is that? I use perler beads for my Gouldians........are those too small?
Any alternative item to use for bands if I don't want to buy any
I always give a printed sheet for each of the birds I sell (Gouldians) with all their genetic history on it, hatch date, etc. etc. so I always felt that gave more info than just a band.

perler beads do not work on grasskeets, they are to small and can cause blood/leg constriction. Try contacting L&M leg band... I use color split bands for bourkes, scarlets and English parakeets to denote family color and I use on the other leg a metal split bands colored to denote year and they can be initialed, the year and a series of numbers.... there really is not anything you can get at a craft store that will work. L&M is inexpensive and the service is good

Re: Bands for Scarlett Chested Parakeets?????????
thanks Paul & Cindy for your guidance. I've been researching band info on the net. Couple questions:
Size for scarlet chest parakeet 4.1 mm ,,,,, size for splendid 4 mm
What's the diff What size do you use
Since close band are recommended at 1 week of age, I'll have to go with split. And I will go with COLORED
I was pleasantly surprised; they're not that expensive....10 bucks or so for what I need.
I'm leaning toward split plastic vs. alum.....any thoughts
What's your experience with PLASTIC COILED WRAP ON
What's your experience with PLASTIC LOCK ON(CLIP ON)
I don't think I'll bother with the year.....comments
Can't order on-line with L&M, mail only; I'm leaning toward BirdBands.com from Australia; shipping is only $1.90.
Appreciate learning all I can; 2 chicks so far
