Hello!
Hello Everyone!
It sure has been a while since I have been on this forum.
I had decided to take a break from birds for a couple of years. I ended up rehoming all of my birds (some from this forum) and focus on my family.
....well I couldnt seem to live very long without a bird lol.
Maybe this was fate...
We just rescued a little budgie yesturday.
Someone had actually found this poor budgie in their backyard, caught him and took him inside. He tried to find the owners but to no avail. No one has come forward for the bird.
This person had no bird experience, but did the best they could with what they had, which was putting him in a fish tank. They fed him carrots and water with a bit of bread. No idea how long they have had this bird for.
So after hearing this story from him, I felt strongly that I needed to bring him into our home.
Right now he is being quarantined in a little cage. My goodness was he ever hungry! When we brought him home he went straight to the food and ate and ate through out the day and night.
He is a bit thin, but seems healthy. His tail is missing, but probably came off when they tried to catch him outside.
Just this morning he is starting to sing
This is one lucky bird.
Any longer outside Im sure he would have died as winter will soon be setting in.

Re: Hello!
What a lucky little bird to have found a home before winter. I'm surprised he survived in the wild. It's wonderful for you take him in.

Hello Fellow Albertan.
So glad you got a hold of this poor little guy. Although we've had lovely weather for October, it's still not really Budgie outdoor weather.
I can't believe he survived outdoors on his own, and I can't believe he survived on carrots, and bread for however long.
I hope he does well and grows his tail back .
Good luck

Lucky little bird for sure! I was born in Alberta and have lived in several cities and visit occasionally. I can't imagine he would have survived much longer outside. Glad he found someone to provide the proper care and diet!

Re: Hello!
Thank you everyone.
He is doing well
I can tell though he is a seed addict lol he loves one particular seed in his mix, and will only eat that. Looks like I got some work cut out for me
Doesnt seem interested in toys or anything like that as of yet. All he really wants to do is eat and then sit on the swing. And over and over again.
As for veggies, I have gotten him to try some sweet potatoe, parsley, and carrot. Doesnt seem interested in anything else so far.
I really dont know how old he is. He is definately an adult but anyones guess on his age.
My kids have named him Oliver Creeper (olive cause of his coloring, and creeper from a character from the game minecraft )
I will see if I can get a picture of him and post it

Re: Hello!
Budgies seem to get lost or released a lot. One of mine is also a foundling who came to the house up the front walk in definite need of a good meal. Now he's just one of the family, and after him we took in a few more. I probably otherwise would never have gotten into parakeets but I'm very glad I did! Very sweet birds.

Re: Hello!
Lucky bird.
There are large flocks of feral budgies in the greater Phoenix area. Releases or escapees that thrive and breed here. Of course we have a VERY different concept of winter here so they are in no climate danger.
Another found animal story: Yesterday a neighbor brought around a baby turtle found on the street, thinking I might be interested in taking it in. It looked like a native Sonoran Desert Tortoise about 2 inches long. These grow slowly to about 14 inches and live 50+ years.
How it wound up in the city is a ??.
Not something I wanted to adopt though. Birds are enough.

Re: Hello!
Derk wow thats great you took in more budgies! they are sweet birds, can be loud at times but sweet.
@paul-inAZ oh wow, thats a shame people just release budgies like that into the wild.
Unfortunately it seems like budgies are often thrown out, or taken to shelters as owners/kids loose interest.
Great to hear about your turtle. How is it doing?

Re: Hello!
Heres a picture of Oliver.
The image is a bit bright as it was morning. He has such a pretty, rich olive color to him and his marking on his wings and head are a light grey color.

Re: Hello!
Dee:
No turtle. I passed on that. Partly because I have a very large pond with lots of water lilies and turtles will eat them. It may have been OK but I am not sure if these desert tortoises are aquatic or not. And I didn't want it inside.
