Leftover budgie food

Post by Rosa » Thu Jan 14, 2016 8:14 pm

My sister had a pair of older budgies, and they have both been dead for over a few months now. I've found uses for their cage and accessories, but there's still a unopened bag of budgie seed laying around.
Anyone have any ideas on what I could do with these leftovers?

Depending on the best before date on the bag (and if it hadn't been opened), you could give it to someone who has budgies.

You could pitch a little at a time into your backyard to feed the wildlife until you use it up...if you don't know anyone who could use the seed. That would be better than letting it go to waste.

So will finches. In fact my finches waste none of the budgie seed but won't eat any of the extra stuff they put in "finch mix" such as rape or flax seed.

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.

Plant it.
Scratch it into the soil and give it some water. The sprouting greens are wonderful vegetables for finches or canaries. Most of it will come up looking like grass. clip these off and feed to your birds.

My canaries and societies are specially avid eaters of fresh grasses. Gouldians eat this but not as much.
