Couldn't believe my eyes this morning. My Scarlet's were both actively picking at dried poop on the newspaper floor of their cage. What's with this

Could they be lacking something in their diet

Not sure what's the reasoning behind poop eating in the animal world (I have a dog whom I have to regularly chase away from fresh poop piles, even though she has a very good and varied diet

).
Personally, I would make a point of changing the cage papers as often as possible, just because I find it an eaky habit.

I have heard may times that birds will get the gut bacteria they need from doing just that so giving probiotics aren't necessary. Maybe there really is something to that.
