SCP eating poop

Post by finchandlovebird » Tue Apr 05, 2016 9:43 am

Couldn't believe my eyes this morning. My Scarlet's were both actively picking at dried poop on the newspaper floor of their cage. What's with this :?: Could they be lacking something in their diet :?:

Not sure what's the reasoning behind poop eating in the animal world (I have a dog whom I have to regularly chase away from fresh poop piles, even though she has a very good and varied diet :YMSICK: :YMSICK: :YMSICK: ).

Personally, I would make a point of changing the cage papers as often as possible, just because I find it an eaky habit.

I have heard may times that birds will get the gut bacteria they need from doing just that so giving probiotics aren't necessary. Maybe there really is something to that.
