Rest in Peace, Sydney
A very sad morning, my sweet Sydney passed away, apparently just from old age. Last night he seemed weak and chose to bed down in a food bowl rather than up on the high swing with his buddy, and it appears that he never awoke from that spot. If his prior owner remembered his birth date right, he was now pushing eight years old, which is pretty good for an exhibition-type budgerigar.
Such a sweet soul, I'm happy that he became so tame in his final few months and finally learned to trust people.
He will be greatly missed both by me and his birdie soul mate, Arthur. The two were quite literally never apart. Arthur seems truly lost without his big blue companion beside him today.

I'm sorry Dylan.
It's so sad , when we lose on of our kids.
That said, I think you can take comfort in the fact, that he had a wonderful life with you my friend.

Sydney did have a good life with you. I hope Arthur can bond to a new friend. I have tried quite literally 8 times to give Blue a new partner but he never bonded again. I don't know if that is usual or not.
I'm sorry you lost him.

I'm so sorry to hear about your sweet baby. I know he had a wonderful life, flying free in your beautiful bird room. Sending you a hug....

Shortly after Sydney's passing, I actually did adopt two new English budgies - a 6 week old green youngster named Bailey, and a slightly older 6 month old blue spangle male who is almost a spitting image of Sydney. I thought the two newbies might bond with eachother, but nope - sure enough, another connection was instant, and a few weeks later, Arthur has a new best friend to whom he is attached at the hip. He and Bernie have bonded completely.
Bailey, interestingly enough, also bonded immediately to our other budgie, Sam, so everyone is quite content now.
Appearance-wise, Bernie is very alike Sydney - which may be why Arthur gravitated to him immediately - but they are nothing alike in temperament. Bernie is nervous and wild, Sydney calm and trusting. It will take some time to win him over, but we'll get there, and in any case, Bernie seems to be exactly what Arthur needed.

Congrats on the new birds. They have a way of making their own bonds, even when we think we know what will work. lol

Awww...that is so sweet. Happy for you and your new babies. They don't realize it yet, but they will be living the good life at your place!!!
