They're active and looking healthy.
I've been adding vitamins to their water to hopefully help with any stress.

My one concern is that whitey may get picked on or ignored and become depressed or stressed.
Sometimes they will let him sit with them but only for short time before they don't want him.

The weather hasn't been as cold. And I'm keeping a heat lamp on just in case.

The finches seem much more adaptable to weather than the parakeets.

Last time I gave the parakeets a bird bath, the only one that took a bath, Sky, started to shiver tho the livingroom was 70 and I had to up the heat to stop her shivering.
Haven't given them any bath because they so fragile.

The finches love to bathe and have no problem.

I'm so sorry to hear about your boy "Blue". I agree with you that it is so difficult to deal with a sick birds. By the time you notice something is off, it usually has progressed and very serious.

You gave him a happy little life with your family and his cage mates. Sending you a hug!

That's odd.

I have never found Budgies to be fragile in the least.

Regarding your odd man out....
Why not get him a friend?

I don't know why these parakeets r so unable to handle the cold.
The weather has gotten colder again and my concern is to just keep them healthy and alive.
Don't want to add any more while making sure these r truly ok and can handle the rest of winter.
Plus whitey and bluie hated each other. An arranged marriage doesn't mean they will like each other. So getting one more could just be they pick on him or her.

I think bluie was the only male. At least he was the only one with dark blue cere.
These 3 r much less explore and r staying only on 1 side of cage. Bluie was very active and curious.
Iwill just give them time to settle down after loss of bluie.

If any more get sick I'm definitely going to stick to society finches.

Like zebra finches but they too aggressive to society
And parakeets not good for wintertime.

society 2nd winter with no problems so far.

don't understand why bluie was the one that got sick.
Sky is the one that shivers with any cold.
It was so unexpected. They seemed fine and happy.
Hard not being able to know cause for sure, can't protect and prevent when not sure what happened.

I have some experience in sexing budgies, if you can post some head shots of your budgies in natural light (no flash).

How long have you had your budgies?

Do you know how old they were when you got them?

Just checking in since I have not seen recent posts. How are your birds doing? Hopefully no others got sick after you lost Blue. Let us know! Sending you a Hello Out There!

A bad smell definitely indicates bacteria. If the streets are flooding up to your house, it may be e coli. No way to be sure without a microscope, sadly.

I had (well, still have) a problem with re-occurring infections of mysterious origin in my zeebs. I wound up buying this supplement powder called Guardian Angel, and it's quite frankly awesome.

My one old cock still frequently gets sick, but it's far less frequent, and my other birds never get wheezy anymore. I would suggest you invest in some, as a preventative measure, and feeding it to them for a week any time you feel worried.

Just in case!

Good to know about "Guardian Angel". I saw this supplement recently when buying some items for my birds. There are so many vitamins, supplements, meds, etc. out there that is overwhelming trying to make a decision to keep the right items on hand....just in case. Thanks!

Jen It does get a bit daunting... I've actually got a whole 'cookbook' in my kitchen with the supplements, which ones to give, and when. I used to have an anti-fungal AND antibacterial herbal supplement, which had to be dosed out carefully to prevent them getting too much of certain ingredients, but after doing some research I was able to cut down on my redundant supplies and just keep the guardian angel, ivermectin, oregano oil, and multivitamin drops.

We bend over backwards for our birds sometimes, lol.
