Stuart whiting You missed the Peter Twinspots and Namakwa doves. I agree, quite an eclectic collection. I will continue to give hookbills a miss and will stick to finches. If anything, I might decide to concentrate on gouldians and only keep 2 pairs of parrotfinches in addition to the gouldians.

That's quite a beautiful collection which your friend has over there.
How big is her aviary, and do they all get along peacefully?
The Hookbills are always tempting with their flashy colours, but.....
I still have to say that the only ones I would seriously consider, are the Linnies, the Borkes, and maybe the Parrotlets (a very big maybe).
The rest, are just too big, too noisy, too bitey, and too much of a time commitment on different levels.

Arh.....I didn't enlarge me screen enough and I mistook the twinspots for painted finches and I did mention the doves but was was unsure which species
Yea me personally I'd be inclined to just stick with the finches,
specialising in just gouldians and a few parrot finches seems to be a good choice

Stuart whiting I was just teasing. Elana, the friend who owns the turquoisine collection is a member of my finches whatsapp group, she lives on the other side of my country. If I am not mistaken, she has a 3 X 1.8 X 1.8 meter aviary. Apparent turquoisines does not bite finches or doves.

It's interesting that many people with outdoor aviaries, manage to keep parrots and finches together without too many issues, and yet inddors it just doesn't seem to work.
I wonder if given enough space indoors it would work as well (?)

That's quite interesting MariusStegmann but to be honest a freind of mine many years ago back in Southeast London had Turquoisines and his birds were also quite placid with other birds aswell and these were in indoor flights inside his birdroomMariusStegmann wrote: Stuart whiting I was just teasing. Seem to be good avairy subjects for a mixed collection

lovezebs I agree with Stuart, turquoisines are really placid birds and inside or outside should not make an difference. As long as you provide enough nestboxes, that there is no competition for breeding places. However that only goes for turquoisines and not for other hookbills.

Thanks for the information Marius.
I have heard that the Bourkes are more or less gentle and peaceful as well, so it's good to know that there are other members of the Parrot family who are similar in nature.
