So What's With The Conure Craze Anyway???

Hello fellow finchers,

I have noticed lately that everywhere you go, there are Conures for sale.
Even on kijiji, every second ad is for Conures of different types and colours.

Can anyone tell me what the craze is all about?

Do they make such wonderful pets, or are they just the favorite new Spring flavour?
Does anyone happen to have a Conure on this forum, or know anything about them?

The one thing I do know, is that they are noisy when I hear them in the Pet shops.

Probably going back about 20 - 25 years I had a few , Sun, Nanday, Patagonian and the little Marroon bellied conure's,

Nice birds but boy were they noisey,

One of the very reasons why I rapidly give em up and not forgetting the numerous times my fingers got bit

Nowadays I'm just more than happy with me waxbills and small finches

I had a green cheek conure for quite a few years and absolutely loved him. He was like our child and would go everywhere with us. He was quite for the most part and really enjoyed playing with my kids, in the future i would like to get me another one.

Conures do seem to be quite popular right now. However, I find green cheeks quite nippy-I got a nasty bite from one a while back-and they are also loud. I would only consider getting one if I lived in a detached home.

That being said, I do like sun conures a lot....they are very cuddly....but again I don't think I could handle the noise.

Heck, I find my green singers LOUD! lol

I can just imagine while from now, when all these poor birdies will be hitting the Parrot Rescues .

People are so silly in their choices of feathered companions....
Oh everyone is getting one, need to get one too... head shake

I watched a couple of girls at the Pet Shop the other day. They were looking at the finches, and commenting?..
"Why do people buy these? They don't like do anthing."
"I know, at least get like a Parrot or something that can like talk ..."

I had to smile and shake my head, thinking to myself: Yea, just stick your finger in the cage and see what they can do, lol.

Blimey that's a bit of a mixed collection

Can see painted finches, star finch, Yorkshire canaries, new colour canary, doves, Bourkes and Turquoisines
