Should I, Or Shouldn't I???

Post by lovezebs » Thu Jul 06, 2017 9:21 pm

Hi All,

Some of you may recall little Kenzie (RIP).

Kenzie, was my darling baby Linnie who stole my heart from the first day I saw him as a half feathered weenling at my friend Kevin's house.

I taught Kenzie to eat, and I enjoyed this little guy so much, that my dogs became jealous.

When Kenzie was still very young and learning to fly, my little dog Katy, took a flying leap into the air and grabbed him.

He died in my hands with an astonished look on his little face.

I cried like a baby, cradling his poor lifeless body.

Since then, I've been keeping my eyes open fo maybe another Linnie, but there were none to be found around here.

Well suddenly, there are several young Linnies that have become available through different breeders in my area.

They are pricy, but oh so tempting.

What do you folks think?
Should I , or shouldn't I???

Here are some pictures of Kenzie, my handsome boy.

but what about the dogs? Can you truly guarantee that they will NEVER be able to get near the bird, since clearly the instinct to hunt it is there?

I have learned that in life sadly one cannot guarantee anything.

Awareness and caution yes, guarantee of course not.

You know now to keep them all separated.

My pitbull could care less about my birds, but my lab mix would love nothing more than to crunch them all.

Dogs and my indian ringneck parrot are separated by a curtain and a baby gate and when the parrot rides around on my shoulder in the house the dogs are closed in the office or romping outside.

Been over a year and no incidents. I think you should go for it. \M/

I keep going back and forth between all of them, and I honestly don't know if I should go for one of them or not. The kid in me says: I WAN IT I WAN IT, PLEEEASE!!! While the adult is saying: Don't you have enough on your plate??? Do you really need another high maintenance pet??? ~X( ~X( ~X(

You could sell or give some finches in order to make enough room to get a new bird.

Ricardo Ronsini

I know Ricardo, but they're my babies.... so hard to part with :(

A lot of them I've seen hatch and handled them as babies, fed them, etc. Sigh :YMSIGH: I simply get too attached to these little guys.

I know, I know, I can't keep all of them, no need to tell me, lol

If only I could win that million $ and build my dream Bird Room =D>

I know how you feel, it is harsh to let them go.

But i can either stop breeding (and i know i'm not doing that) or unhand some.

Plus, i'm sure that someone else would like to have them as much as i do :D

I agree , in life there are no guarantees , you do whatever you can to keep them safe and hope for the best. I have a toy poodle and if any of my birds got in the same room with him they would not have a chance :( .

I hear ya, can I take just one more !!!! I am also a kid at heart and have a very hard time saying no !!!

You know how to handfeed. Get the Olive, ask to take a bitty one of their hands. Form that bond again. <3

I love the way hook bills look into your eyes when they are being handfed. SO MUCH LOVE!

Oh honey, you are not helping me resist temptation
Those two Olive infants are really cute looking, but did you see that Turquoise baby, and the Blue.....

Oy.....

Look again at the face on the picture above of Kenzie when you were handfeeding and Kenzie is looking up at you..... <3

I know that look from being there every night at the pet store while Ronan was being handfed.

Its when they are studying your face, listening to your voice and words while forming that bond.

When Ronan laid on my chest like that as a baby I thought I was gonna lactate. *giggle* As a result of the bonding process he is an amazingly tame and affectionate fellow.
