The top bird is just an English budgie, but the rest are "featherdusters". This is a bird with a harmful mutation that causes its feathers to never stop growing, and thus remain bloodfeathers forever. The birds have very short lifespans because as the feathers get larger and larger, they suck all of the birds' energy in their growth. If they break, it can also bleed to death. Because of that, you can't clip the plumage, and thus the bird is effectively blinded by its feathers.

As far as I know, the oldest featherduster budgies have only lived a year or so.

Better to leave things as Mother Nature intended! Poor birds, no life for them at all.

lovezebs. Sad for the feather dusters I read they dont perch and are always at the bottom of the cage as far as the English I have two and love the color of that one you posted they are not as chatty and climbers like the smaller budgies but they are active and do chatter and love toys they only puff there head when they are posing on a perch or get excited.I love them

Barbara:
A timely comment. I have been actively looking into adding some English to replace a parrotlet pair I bought this winter. There is a budgie club here and I've spent time at one of the breeder/exhibitors. His young birds won't be ready for sale for another month or so so I'll have to try to be patient. He has big beautiful birds.

I certainly agree on the grotesque feather dusters. I gather they are becoming a cult item in Asia. I am also not fond of the 'afro' hairdo of many show budgies. A little more moderate fluffy hairdo suits me better.

Barbara:
Now thats more like it.
The white is gorgeous. Is he an albino [red eye] or a double factor spangle [white ring in the eye]?

Are you considering adding a hen and breeding? Maybe a sky blue spangle x the white one?
