Indian ringneck parrots

Post by sparrowsong98 » Tue Aug 29, 2017 9:16 am

Hi
I was thinking about getting more birds (a LONG time in the furture), and teh indian ringneck caught my eye. So, are they a good bird for someone who has only had finches? Or should I look for something smaller, or a different species?
I currently own:
An Australian shepherd
Many chickens
4 goats
A cat
And a bunny

They are very smart birds, need space.... do want to warn you they can be very loud so depending on where you are living you may want to take that into consideration.

I have a 1 1/2 year old Indian Ringneck named Ronan. He lives in the birdroom with the finches or hangs out with me where ever I go, but he does not have free flight, nor is he allowed to climb on the finch flights or he will kill the finches.

My finches are used to his noises, whistles & his talking and they breed just fine with him around. But I do have a rather large living that is my bird room.

He only gets loud when he needs attention he will use a loud "call sound" to call for us. Its amusing his call sound is "DADDY!" He really isn't a loud bird. Just make sure you have time for them. They need lots of interaction.

He's very sweet, loves to give kissing constantly. Not a great talker, but he's working on it. I adore him

I really adore him. <3 He favors Bill and will crawl into Bill's neck if he's tired for a snuggle and scratches. Which is unusual because ring necks typically dont like to be touched.

With me , his gives me BIG kisses and practices his talking and chatting. Rides on my shoulder everywhere and generally my "buddy" when I tend the bird room or just about anything around the house.

Bill works evenings and Ronan is a wonderful companion for me.

Lin is sooo pretty! Her eyes match her feathers perfectly! I REALLY love her color! :YMDAYDREAM:

Babs He is so cute! Right now I am not interested in them because I am a kid, and mom`s one cage rule would have to be broken, and because my wallet is too small for an IRN.

Fraza

Thanks Fraza. His color of blue is quite common here in the states. He's small by parrot standards. He weighs about 110 grams. So you can barely feel him on your shoulder.

And he's a very gentle boy.

Fraza My finches are having troubles of their own... Until those are resolved, no more finches. Also, I was looking for something bigger, and longer lived, that I could handle.
