How do do a lovebird break up?

I've had my lovebirds a couple of months now, since late January. For the sake of my female's health, I don't want to leave her in a cage with the male. (They breed more than I though parrot types would.)

I've separated pairs of birds before, but lovebirds show signs of depression. Is there a way to do this without causing them too much anxiety? I know a human can spend more time with a single bird. I do the same with all my others.

I have no problem keeping them both, but I don't want to bite off more than I can chew.

Added note: Even without the nest box, they were mating and laying eggs in month two. O.o

Try a cage with a divider. This way they can be in close contact but not mating.
She may continue to lay eggs without a male around for a while. Just make sure she has a source of calcium like cuttle bone.

I'm providing the full egg laying diet, plus pellets, fresh foods, and assorted other things.

Just keep the birds together for goodness sake...
If you don't want babies, prick the eggs with a pin.

They manufacture dummy eggs, so I guess quite a few people must just let them set without actually raising young.

I like Sheather idea!
