Your Quail are beautiful. How many chicks did you get from that clutch?
My clutch are due to hatch around December 30th.

She had 6 of her own and then 3 days later I gave her 3 more that had hatched from another nest.
I also from time to time make use of an electronic incubator. The success rate about 50-60%.

Did your hen sit on her eggs full term?

Yes, both hens sat full term and then I decided to give all the chicks to the one hen so that the other one can carry on and maybe breed sooner.

My 12 quail babies from the incubator- now 4 days old with their stepmother. She is absolutely fantastic- takes them time and again without any hassles.

Look great! I didn't know you could foster Quail chicks - how wonderful and convenient!
How big an area do you have them in?

The first 10 days in this box 24" x 24" [60cm x60cm]. The space must be confined so that they can find mom easily for heat. during colder periods I also have an infrared light hanging above the box at height of about 1 meter.
Then the box gets taken away and then they have an area of 1m x3m.
They are extremely easy to raise.
This hen is absolutely wonderful - the mother instinct must be very strong.

I've read that it can be hard to get Painted (Button) Quail to sit on their own eggs sometimes. Is there any trick, other than space, peace, and quiet?

When I had BQ babies in my aviary there were 8, 4 each from 2 mothers. They hatched within a couple of days apart. One of the mothers was only intersted for a few days, then all 8 babies started hanging out with the other mother and she was really good at parenting. Both males were actually good as well and took much better care than the one mother.
Your little guys are adorable!
