that's great dante! they are easy to tame, and like to get their heads scratched. they are fun birds to keep. i feed mine everything else the finches get, plus duck starter. you can get it at a feed or farm store near you. it has a lot of protein in it, which they need as they are high energy birds. i just grind mine up in an old coffee grinder for them 8) they also love taking sand baths, so i make sure they have that as well a few times a week.

Okay! I heard mealworms get them to come to you easily. I will get duck starter, I have also heard of using chicken crumble? They will get it and seed, and millet and mealworms!

Just make sure, whatever kind of starter crumble you get, that it is non-medicated.

How is your BQ hen doing this afternoon, Amy?

yes liz that's a good point about the food being non-medicated! she is doing so much better. she is eating and drinking and isn't all puffed up anymore. i also just checked and she passed the egg! when i peeked into her hospital cage, she was sitting in her food bowl with the egg under her :) thanks so much for your help everyone!

yes dante, they especially love mealworms. you can hand feed it to them too, this will help with the taming process if you want to be able to pet them or hold them. just hold one by their cage, and in time they will come running over and will take them from you!

Great update Amy, I'm so pleased for her. Making sure she gets plenty of calcium along with the other hens and you should have her around for a long, long time. =D>
