thanks janine! it is a relief. i hope that he will continue to improve [-o< i have been monitoring him over the past two days and his twirling has really diminished. at this point today, he hasn't flipped backwards at all yet :) (at least that i have seen! i have been studying all day so i have been watching him closely). his neck has also been in the correct position for most of the day. hopefully the little guy will get better <3

Wow - that's awesome and amazing!! =D>

To what do you attribute the remarkable comeback, Amy?

honestly liz, i don't know #-o i found that when there was a lot of commotion near him he got frightened and flipped over. but since he has been alone, (i put a towel around his cage so he can only see out of the front of the cage), he isn't getting so startled. as well, i found that he was trying to look around a lot in the big cage, and when he was trying to focus on something, he would start twirling. now he can't really see much, so he seems to be flipping around a lot less.

i am going to keep him separated for a month or so and hopefully he will recover from whatever was happening to him [-o<

hi meagan, he is doing ok, a lot better than before. he is still living in the community cage with his brother, mate and his niece.

its been tough to watch him as he seemed to have this miraculous recovery, and then after about a week, he went back to twirling again  the good thing is that its not as often, and not as violently as he was before. i would say its happening about 30% - 40% of the time, whereas a few weeks ago it was at 100%. now he is eating and drinking, and he can walk around a lot better, although he doesn't perch at all. overall, he is doing a lot better than he was a few weeks ago :)

hi liz,
he is still twirling  i have separated him from the other doves as they were attacking him. poor guy couldn't get away. he would also twirl himself right in the middle of the other doves' nest and then get stuck in their open nest box... needless to say, that wasn't going very well for him!

i guess i will wait and see if his condition will improve again. he is able to eat and drink, and he can walk around a bit. but for the most part, his head is stuck in the sideways/backwards position.

good news :) my dove has been doing a lot better for the past few weeks. i have moved him back in with his mate. he still isn't perching at all, but he is a lot more calm and not twisting his neck around as much. he is now able to lay on the ground for hours at a time without twirling. i knew he was doing better when i finally heard him cooing the other day! i hope that he will continue to improve.

That's great news :)
What a mystery, this twirling.
From that first picture you posted, I didn't think he'd get better, but I'm happy he recovered enough to lead a comfy finch life :)
