possible albino diamond dove baby?

Post by tinysparrow » Wed Dec 26, 2012 4:47 pm

Has anyone ever seen an albino diamond dove baby? I close banded the baby today, and the baby looks albino :) It has pure white feathers coming in, a pink beak, and has red eyes. I haven't had this happen yet from this pair... I have only had normal wild type babies and white rumped silvers. The mom is the silver, and the dad is the wild type. Any thoughts? Could it be albino?

Sorry, its a bit hard to see the red eyes in the photos that I took with my phone #-o

Thanks Debbie :) It will be interesting to see what the baby will look like when it feathers out. I've never seen an albino diamond dove before, so I am looking forward to seeing what may happen with this little one.

Very cool!! I hope he is albino!!! Mathew Dow on finchaholics has some white and red diamonds, not sure if they are albino though.

It will be interesting to see if it is actually an albino. Aren't Diamond Dove babies just the cutest things? :D

http://www.internationaldovesociety.com ... colors.htm has a list of all the mutations. I do not see albino (not a mutation but a complete absence of melanin ) but the Snow white and brilliant white tail mutation has red eyes and all white. Perhaps write them and let them know what the parents are and include pictures. They might be able to help you with what the baby will be.

Yes, diamond dove babies are very sweet! I hope to get another pair in the near future :)

Cindy I looked at the photos on the site... I think that you are right, the baby may be one of the white mutations. I guess we will have to wait and see what it will look like with all of its feathers.

Thank you debbie and lyzzyjayne :) The baby fledged this morning! Its still a bit unsure about life outside the nest box I think... its been perched on the side of the box for a few hours.

It really is unique. Can't wait to see it 'all grown up'.
