Look what I caught today - a Diamond Dove!

This one came down to eat this morning with our regular bunch of garden doves/finches. It took a few hours of cat and mouse but luckily it seems to be an extremely tame bird, as I could happily get within 3 feet of it before it flew off because of the net. It was more of me waiting for it to come out of a tree each time...(otherwise my cats would have caught it  )

It doesn't look to be in too bad a condition besides very exhausted and it's tail has taken a bit of a beating. I have it alone in a small cage with a heat lamp and some vitamins in the water. Besides having two really good eating sessions, I haven't seen it do anything but rest. It seems incredibly tame. I was busy putting on the heat lamp switch inside the cage when it decided to come down to eat. Landed on my hand, poped over to the food bowl and tucked in to eat. To me this sounds hand tamed. Am I correct?

I'm going to see if I can find out who lost a bird in my area. Otherwise I think it will make a lovely dove companion for Pebbles, my young Peruvian, in my little aviary. Because it's a very pretty cinnamon dove :D

Thanks everyone :D I only ever see the normal grey or very dark brown doves for sale and I've just never been a fan. This little on, on the other hand, is absolutely beautiful! Definitely the lightest in color that I have personally seen. So the dove and I have both been lucky!

So far it seems to be on the mend. Still very quiet but eating and preening and it's eye's are brighter today. So hopefully it will be just fine :)

PrettyBird

I put up a notice at the local petshop on my way home from work yesterday. I've also been checking the local classifieds sites in the "lost/found" sections. Nothing yet. I won't put it in with my birds for a few weeks anyways (rather safe, than sorry), so will see what happens.

You could also put up a post in Craigslist, just stating that you found a domesticated bird, and ask them to contact you with info about the bird they are missing. I wouldn't say what kind of bird, otherwise, someone might just claim it to get a free dove.
