Ptilinopus nainus - Plain-breasted Ground dove

Post by monotwine » Wed Aug 06, 2014 8:42 am

AKA Pygmy doves.

I met some at a pet shop today for the first time. They are adorably little....

I was super tempted, but declined for now until I could do more research on what conditions they like etc.
They are perfect it would seem for my aviary set up and little enough to house with finches. They seem like they are only a little bigger than Java's.

Not something we see here everyday, but I will keep a look out for them in future. The shop I was at today is quite far away and the birds will be sold by the time I go back.
They hail out of the Americas, so I doubt you all in USA are allowed to keep them.

Did you happen to get a picture? There are some very little doves here that I've never seen before. Maybe the same kind?

Sorry I didn't take a pic, but google has plenty. They look bigger than they are in pictures.

How cute. :) No we probably can't keep them in the states. They remind me of the Inca Doves...

or at least about that size. They have much more scaling in their feathers.

If you get them you'll have to keep us posted on how they do.
