Single parent dove query
My female diamond dove whose mate died maybe two weeks back has laid two eggs and is incubating. Do you suppose she could have stored sperm to fertilize these for this time - can doves do that like finches? - and could she raise up to two babies alone?

Sheather - It is possible that the eggs are fertile. Have you candled them to see yet? And yes, she should be able to handle feeding on her own. Certainly one, but two shouldn't be too much of a strain on her either.

Colt She abandoned the eggs after eight days, which is the longest any of the diamonds have sat so far. Horrible parents. Might try to see if there'd be any way my ringnecks could foster them. They're so much smaller, but with the way pigeons feed their babies it might work; the chick just has to lap it from their mouth.
