Button Quail Calcium

Post by Celeris » Tue Mar 21, 2017 4:55 pm

Alright, folks! Got a question for you: can I use shaved cuttle bone as the calcium source for my button quail. I know ground oyster shell is an option, but seeing that I always have cuttle bone around, I'd far rather use my resources than start purchasing new stuff. Thoughts? Opinions?

If there's cuttle bone around anyway, I can't see how shaving bit's of it off for them would be harmful, but then I know next to nothing about Quail, sorry :)

Seeing as I know very little about them, I found this for you...

Hope it's helpfull.

I actually looked it up after I posted here (don't know why I didn't do that before) and it sounds like they can handle the whole cuttlebone just like our little finchy friends do! However, also like finches, some use it, some don't. Go figure, right? I'm gonna give it a try, though, with egg shells as my backup. My finches absolutely LOVE the cuttlebone, though, so I always have plenty. The convenience of using the same supplies for both (within reason) sounds quite appealing!

Thank you for the link!
