Hi there,
My female Chinese button quail has been incubating her 10 eggs since the 15th of December and I'm just wondering when I can candle them to see whether or not they are fertile? Her last two lots of eggs were not fertile and therefore did not hatch, and this time as I will be away, I am wanting to know whether or not to expect baby quails!
Thanks!

Okay, so we candled some of the eggs and cracked one open but they aren't fertile sadly.

Re: Candling Button Quail eggs
Many times button quail aren't the best sitters when it comes to incubating and hatching the eggs so that could possibly be a reason why the eggs weren't fertile. Also I noticed that you have 2 Button quails, in past experience my females didn't sit very good on their eggs because the males would be constantly harassing them if there weren't other females in the same cage to distract the males. Thats one of the reasons why they say it's best to keep button quails in trios so that the females don't get too beat up by the males.

Re: Candling Button Quail eggs
Thank you! I have heard of that . but my male button quail doesn't really harass my female which is surprising and she is an amazing sitter. The last time I didnt remove the eggs she sat for a month! I am thinking of trimming the feathers around their bottoms. Do you think this will work? Also female button quails seem to be hard to find, So I'll just have to stick with pairs for now.
