Thought you all would like to see some newly hatched BQ. I have a dozen eggs hatching out all day.

Amazing, JohnBoy. Love those little Button Quail. Did you buy the eggs or are they from your own birds? Looks like you have a Darth Vader there. Nice pics. The miracle of birth never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for sharing.

They are self sufficient immediately. They start eating and drinking about 24 hours after they hatch.

John, this is really nice of you to share their "coming out to join the world" with us. So cute.

They just grow up much to fast... Not that I didn't like my Cordon Bleu babies, but the buttons where the best experience in the aviary so far. I didn't see the finches before they flew out because I was too afraid to disturbe the parents by peeking in the nest (which was high up in a batch of fake ivy) but the button quail I saw right after hatching. They were immediately active, like JohnBoy says. After a few hours they were already following the parents around. Within a few days there were out on their own all the time. It only takes a short time though for them to grow up and be as big as the adults...
