I Love pet Bragging.....

Post by tidnab42 » Wed Nov 22, 2006 12:28 am

We have 3 Bronze Winged Mannakins, 2 cordon Blues, 7 societys (includes 2 brand new babies and first babies for us), 1 parakeet (lola), 1 Ringed Necked Parakeet (Polly), 3 cockatiels (Milo, Mandy and Coco) and 2 Pionus (Bailey and Blueberry Pie) White capped and Blue headed. Also 3 Dogs... One Austrailian Shepherd blue Healer (Queenie) and One Aussie(Ginger) My agility Dog and finally Earnest T Bass, my 11 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier -ex stud muffin, short name (Ernie). And of course throw a husband in there and one 10 year old son who is now totally interested in breeding and showing birds.

Phew... My house is very quiet too! Seriously. The only loud mouth of the bunch is the Ringed Necked Parakeet. Polly... She demands attention and PEANUTS.

Thanks for the great Forum and letting me brag.

Wow Boothcreek, that is an impressive collection! I would love to keep chickens too but the zoning laws for my development don’t allow me to do so. I am looking at getting some coturnix quail though.

Holy cow! Your mom doesn't hate you, Anna - she just hopes that you take them all with you when you move out after college!!!

I'm jealous that you have room for everybody!

That's a wide variety of critters you have! :D

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure we'll be picking your brain from time to time.

How long have you been collecting this menagerie? :)

I have been breeding all these birds for around 4 yrs now, the quail, finches and tiels are new though. Tiels I had back in Germany for over 8 yrs, but when we moved I had to get rid of them though. Took me 5 yrs to get some again, but only cause I moved out into our guesthouse and mom wont have to deal with the mess and noise(she still wants me to give them away).

Cortunix are an awesome choice if you want a pet bird, they tame down so nicely. The males crow sounds awesome too, and the eggs are to die for.

My mom hates my birds, she doesn't like'em at all except for the Peas, those she loves(maybe cause they act like cats... I dunno, really tame and friendly birds, my fav Peahen Aurica is even leash-trained).
The guineas drive her insane though, I expect to find all my Guineas shot off the fence when I come home from work................ok, I must admit these guys are terribly annoying, they are louder then my 13+ roos.

The horses, 2 dogs and 3 cats are more moms animals though.

We breed the Shagyas, got the number of Shagyas in Canada up to 20 horses(Yay). We brought all our Shagyas(4 mares + 1 stallion) with us from germany.
Same with 2 of our dogs(the beardies). Our German cats have died of old age and from being eaten by an eagle

I thought my mom would like the Idea that I move to the otherside of the road(still our property, but the previous owner is allowed to live there until he dies) with my birds as soon as Mr. Thane drank himself to death.
Nope, she says she wont let me move in there right away, she wants to rent it out for a few year first......
No fair......

160 acres of land and no where to get away from moms nagging LOL

Edit: We also got a website, www.boothcreekranch.com , is anyone wants to see pics of my birds(still gotta make a page for the finches and tiels though).
