Good to hear from you again, JohnBoy.
That is one gorgeous colored bird. Very, very nice.
BTW, how did your Saffron make out in breeding?

The Saffrons laid 4 eggs. They got extremely aggressive so I had to remove them to their own quarters with the nest and 4 eggs but they would not go back into the nest to set after I removed them from the aviary. Only one of the four eggs were fertile. I had them in an incubator and dropped the only fertile egg with an almost fully developed chick in it. Needless to say I was sick over it.

I emailed Garrie Landry the pics and this was his reply to me:

the bird is a grey Chocolate self, if it were European it would be called a Black Grey

grey is a recessive mutation that can affect all colors of societies

chocolate grey, chestnut grey and fawn grey plus others,,I have several Pearl Greys

very nice bird and a valuable one for breeding

Cannot say I have ever seen societies in those colours, but they sure look stunning. Quite unusual and very striking.

Enjoy trying to breed more.

So sorry to hear that! At least they have the experience, next time will be better.
I didn't mean to hijack your thread, just had been wondering for some time about the Saffrons.

Doing great. Garrie told me to breed them back to the parents. Will set up a cage for them soon.
Going to the bird fair on Saturday and planning on buying just goulds to pair off with all my 2009 OH's. They are all related so need to get some new bloodlines to pair them with.

Beautiful color :D There used to be an awesome website that showed all the different Socs but I can't find it anymore. It showed colors and types in great detail.

A dealer had one for sale at the New Orleans bird fair this weekend. It was $22.
