My New Pair of Red Face Aurora Finches

Post by JohnBoy » Sat Jul 10, 2010 3:12 pm

Went to the NO bird fair today. I bought a pair of RCCB's and a pair of Red Face Pytillas. I also bought a male BF WB male gouldian split to blue. The breeder said it should throw a blue out of every 16 birds. Thats a lot of waiting to have to do. Anyway I will pair him with an orange head female from my stock. And that means more waiting cause she is only about 5 months old. Boo Hoo. So I figure I should see a blue in about 10 years? EEK! Anyway here are a few pics of the new birds.

I know where those Pytilia's & RCCB's came from & they are from good stock :D If you have any additional questions on them, please PM me.... I can tell by the pictures they are in a great home and they should thrive in that enviroment..

nice birds :D

but just wanted to clear something up. the blue gen is recessiv, that means that if your female is also split blue then 25% of your chicks should be blue.
I have a pair with this gens and got 4 blue out of 10 chicks.
If your female do not have the blue gen then you can´t get any blue ever with that female, but then you could change and hope for bether luck next round.

The breeder did not tell me that. I am breeding him to a pure blooded orange (yellow) head hen. And I told him that. So tell me what will I get? Also so I need to buy a female split to blue or a blue hen?

If the female is OH PB and not split for blue back or white breast?

Then you get all green back (50% will be split blue but you can not see which is which), all PB (white split). All the sons will be red-headed or orange-heded if the male has yellow genes in him (all split for black-headed). The daughters will be black-headed
