Green singing Finch compatible with Society Finch?
I currently have 2 Society Finches which I believe to be both female.
They are housed in the single HQ flight cage.
I really want a Finch that will sing. My last Society that I bought was supposed to be a male. I want a male only for the singing, I do not care to breed.
I was at a Bird Mart this past weekend and saw Green Singing Finches. Love their looks, and from what I hear the male sings beautifully.
So my questions are:
Would a lone Green Singing Finch, male, get along with, and be happy with my two Societies? Would a pair do better with the Societies and still have the singing of the male?
Would I be better of trying to get a male Society to live with the existing females?
What other finch species do you recommend for the singing ability to get along with my Societies?

I have a male Green Singer in a 30x18x36 flight cage with a pair of Zebras. They get along OK, the Zebras can sort of hold their own, but he does intimidate them a little. I had a female Green Singer, the pair had the cage to themselves, and I found her dead on the floor of the cage one morning, just pecked to death. I later learned that Green Singer pairs should be separated when not breeding. He does have a beautiful song, but I don't want to mix him in with my other, relatively expensive finches, as they are all passive, and I am afraid he would bully them. I think I would rather have a canary.

I raise finches of all kinds from zebras, to societies, to stars and green singers. If you put only a few birds in a small cage -{the size that Sally stated in the last post}You're going to have fighting!! ANY mixed group will fight! You have a choice to make - either stick to one kind of finch - such as your socities,or get a bigger cage and more birds. With a bigger cage they can fly away from one another and fights stop or with more birds they seem not to remember who they were fighting with and fights stop. To have the fighting stop, I have found that you need 7 to 10 birds. Whether their socities or greens or zebras - or all mixed together. As far as cage size - one twice as big as Sally's should do the trick. I hope this helps! What you can do if you like the singing green finches is get a pair - for all finches should be kept in pairs- They don't do well on their own-and put them in their own small cage.

hi sally
seriously the small ones are ,still slightly aggressive when breeding but , they dont peck as hard as the large ones ..my male green singer has killed birds in the aviary just by dive bombing them with his beak but he is as big as a small canary so he packs a wallop..just make sure that they have plenty of room and privacy when they are nesting...if you get a pair that is! by the way they have been known to hybridise with canaries so they are not all that bad
