Eggs in 3 weeks of purchase!

Post by RustiAnkr » Mon Sep 24, 2007 7:58 pm

Howdy!
I'm Peg from the Vancouver area in Canada. I'm new to finches, but not new to critter care (I have a zoo of ferrets, anole, fish, cat, dog, mice and now sweet finches!) I've been doing extensive reading and research on the net.
My hubby brought home a pair of chocolate pied Society finches for an early birthday present. Spike and Pearl were paired up at the store so were very easy to cage together. A week later finch math struck him and he brought home a pair of zebra finches. Ozzy and Alice (she has Alice Cooper make-up and Ozzy does a mutter mutter mutter sound along with his song) I found a gorgeous flight cage on Ebay and boy are they happy campers.

The day before yesterday I noticed Spike was making more sounds and acting more territorial when Ozzy and/or Alice would get too close to their nest. Yesterday I peek through the bars and saw a little egg in their nest!
I'm stoked that they would mate so soon!

My hubby brought home some long grass and some branches for them to perch and use for nesting. They're getting the egg, and some veggies along with their seed. They even sampled some meal worms we keep on hand for the Anole, Mister Lizard.

I've enjoyed reading the forum and am learning much! 8)

Hey, congrats on the egg! Societies make wonderful parents (as long as they can keep the zebs from interfering!).

I used to live down in the Seattle area, and got to visit Vancouver just the once. Nice area!

The zebs are being great, they stay out of the nest. They still do the bathing, eating etc together though.

I love it here! I've lived here for 9 years now.

Congrats to the happy couple!

I LOVE Vancouver. I've only vacationed there, but it is a beautiful city.

Thank you! 8) We try to be creative when naming our furkids too. We have 5 ferrets Rudy, Clyde, Izzy, Mocha, and Dakotah. We have Yoshi the dog and Sierra the cat. We have 3 sister mice named Red, Esther (because she squints her eyes when you grab her to change the cage) and Blaze.
