Star Finch males' behavior
Hi,
I'm arkadio. I 'm from Poland. I registered on that forum, because I've got a problem.
I bought a pair of RH Stars 4 months ago. I keep them in a big aviary with a pair of shafttail finch and some zebrafinches. I noted the male behaves strange. He sings a lot, flies , eat ... but he often is huddled and sleepy. He sleeps on one leg on the branch. I don' t know what it is? The female is still very active. She flies all the time and she is everywhere.
I decided to buy a second male. Guess what? He is like previous. Now I 've got two males and they are sleepy and huddled together. They aren't interested in the female, she is alone. I know that Stars should be very active and quickly like my female.Hmm is it disease? I don't think so. Maybe the temerature is low? But it's about 20 degrees (Celcius)
I am waiting for a responses and advices.

Welcome to the Finch Forum, Arkadio - I like that name, very unique!
The temperature is fine at 20*C. Can you put a heatlamp on one end of a perch so they can go near it if they want and move away from it when they don't need it. Obviously all your other birds are doing fine.
Are the Zebras disturbing them? I don't know - I only know Zebras can be a little aggressive compared to other finches.
We would love to see photos of your birds and the aviary if you get a chance to share some.

Hi
Thanks for answer . Yes, my all birds are fine, except those two Stars males.
I think they aren't disturbed by Zebras. I haven't seen that.
I share some photos of my birds

So, you think it may to be cold for them?20*C is good temperature in my opinion. I use a lamp everyday, but they don' t want to get warm
I don't know what should I do. I want to have young Stars , but in this situation it's unreal.

20*C is a GOOD temp - for sure. The heatlamp is just for when the birds think they need more warmth once in a while.
You could try putting some greenery around a couple of nestpots/boxes as Stars really seem to like their privacy.
Zebra and Shaftails might not let them have enough privacy.

I don't think thats to cold the other birds are doing well, but if the stars are not feeling well the extra heat sometimes will help. Take a look at this link it tells about the hospital cage
http://www.finchniche.com/a-hospitalcage.php
How is there poop does it look normal ?
Maybe someone else will have more info. to help

Re: Star Finch males' behavior
Hi Arkadio,
I think several people have it right -- Stars are VERY shy like several species I have. There is a reason that the males are just sleeping instead of courting -- they do not feel that conditions are conducive to raising young so they sleep instead of pursuing the females.
I would separate them from the others or at least give them some very private and hidden places to nest.
However, if you really want baby Star's I think your best bet is to separate them and give them some time to find out they can court the female(s) and raise young without more aggressive finches around to bother them or their young.

Re: Star Finch males' behavior
Thank you so much
Maybe is right... But I would prefer separate another birds and Stars will be in aviary. I planned to separate all Zebras, but now they've got youngs, so I must wait.
I haven't got any cages for shafttails so they must be there with Stars..
The Hospital cage idea might be good, I will try this.
B CAMP I think poop is normal.. but I noticed one of the males scratches his head.
I my aviary there are some green plants but I haven't put there any boxes or nestpots.
