I have this cage too :)

I've had every cage you can think of :)

This is actually a wider one than the Vision one you were thinking of getting, although it doesn't hold crap in as much, but still a great cage. They'll love it!

So far they have been really enjoying it. They are flying everywhere. I added 3 more perches, 2 toys and a swing. But left the majority of the lower section of the cage open, they fly back and forth.

There is still a little seed to clean up, but it is not a big mess. Just a little here and there. But with the bigger cage, I have really been able to enjoy them more. In the smaller cage, I could not really seem them.

I have decided to keep just my 2 boys. They are getting along great. They are grooming each other. I left the nest in and they sleep in it. They have not been fighting at all. They sing alot more.

The thing I find the funniest is, they are bathing in thier drinking water. It is si funny. It is because the water dish is so much bigger. It is so cute. So I added another.

Most finches love to bathe! You can also use those hang-on baths, if they will fit on one of the doors, and that keeps the water contained some. Those are big enough that often the birds will bathe together--I have had four Star finches get in a hang-on bath at the same time--hilarious!

If I ever decide to get rid of any of my birds, I would rehome them instead of return them. The petstore will sell them to anyone. I would want my lil guys to go to a good home. If I ever had to do that.

I do the same thing. I don't ever give any of my birds/babies to those chain petstores. I always feel so bad for them :(

Today I went to petsmart to pick up a few items, and they had like two cockatiels in the huge cage (you know, the end one that they usually put ferrets or parrots in), and even though the tiels were in that huge cage they still looked very poor. I don't know what it is about petsmart and petco that makes their birds look so sad looking. I've purchased birds from petsmart before, and I take them home and sometimes put them in the exact same size cage for quaranteen, but they are so much happier at my house.

I wonder if they just don't refill their food and water every day. I don't understand why their birds look like that when some of them seem to have plenty of room!

hi emily
i think its just plain and simple boredom, they have no stimulation no natural light and the odd person going in to clean them and feed them is not enough they need constant interaction as they are very intelligent birds

I don't know Ken.... My finches like it better when I'm gone. I love to just sit back and watch them... they are def. my passion. But they don't like to interact with me. I think they do know when I'm bringing in food they love

I don't know why your local chain store birds may look sad...

... but I do know that petsmart birds get fresh water and food 2x daily and all get their veggies each morning.

Then again, as much as it seems like all stores of a chain should be alike, that's not always the case. What happens in my store may not happen in another store, or another state... I guess.

i suppose like all shops some bother to look after thier stock and some dont .i certainly would not like to tar everyone with the same brush when it came to them looking after birds in a store you obviously care about your work which the people who shop in your store should be glad of
