aggressive male dilemma

Post by tobyneilson » Fri Feb 18, 2011 4:12 pm

OK I tried to pair a couple of zebs up for breeding, just went check on them before settle down and I fount the female in floor of cage badly injured :( have put her in a hospital cage with heat etc and put the male in a cage on it's own.The female should make a full recovery
The dilemma is what to do with the male, should I try him back in the flight cage(he is new to me but had him in flight cage fir week or so after isolation with no sign of aggressive behavior, or should I see if a local breeder wants him? I don't want him to live alone forever and he is a gorgeous bird

I have had a similar situation although not as bad a result.
One bird, usually the hen, is aggresive and chases or attacks the other.
I put them in a divided cage with the divider in place.
That way they can see but the aggressive one can't fight.
After a couple weeks of that, hormones take over and they usually decide they want to mate rather than fight, and I can remove the divider and there is no chasing.

OK thanks, will try him in the flight cage again, see how he is.
If he is OK i will just leave him in there and not use him for breeding
