housing a green singer with zebbies?
Hey again:) New to finches, for now I just have a pair of zebras... But I was thinking about getting a green singer. The cage is about 54" long, 20" high, so I don't really want to get two singers. Would he be ok, socializing with zebras? Or would he get lonely for others of his kind? : <
I think the zebras would be ok. At the pet shop where I got them they were housed with canaries and a lady gouldian and there didn't seem to be any problems. The singer I'm thinking about is currently housed with two cut throats at a different pet store.
Thanks :3

hi
welcome to the site,i would say it would be ok to keep the 1 on its own.but if you had a pair you could have trouble because they sometimes can be aggresive when they are breeding but you should be ok with just the one...also you could ask the owner if he has seen it attacking any of the other birds it is housed with if he is truthfull

thanks, kenny! yes, it'll be just the one. I saw they were in the same "tier" as pushy birds, but they're from completely different parts of the world so I just wanted to make sure

hi
its a great pity you have not more space to get a pair, the males song is fantastic but they only seem to sing when thier is a female ,but i am afraid thats when you get the trouble, just so you make the right choice the female has a necklace of spots and the male does not...but the male has the fantastic song!

I agree with Ken, the male has a lovely song. He sings to his female while she is down eating. It is the kind of song that when I hear it kind of makes you smile!
Mine are in my dining room I can see them from the kitchen table. The male usually sings right around dinner time.

hi
sometimes i think thier song surpasses a lot of other captive birds songs even the canary...the only other comparison is its companion in name only the grey singer....very drab but a wonderful singer!

Kenny, the one thing I love about the green singers' song is how much softer and lighter it is. I'm not so upset that mine have not bred yet, I like the song, it is not overpowering. They are sweet little birds.

hi
when i had them i had a trio, and they never ever argued, because 1 of the male had a missing foot and i think the other male knew he was no threat,my aviary was 19ft long 9ft wide and 7ft high so they had plenty of room if they did decide to have a fight but i never saw them fighting only competing with thier songs

Re: housing a green singer with zebbies?
ahhh, i also love the green singer's song, but he only sings when there's female? ooh, that's a shame.
doing some more research i'm a bit torn. the zebbies and the singer will get along, but there are very few birds i could house with them. now that i know i'd have to get two to enjoy the song, i'm leaning toward a gouldian or an orange-cheeked waxbill.
but they're also so pretty... ahh, such a dilemma!

hi
if it was me i would go with the gouldian,a waxbill is a bit on the delicate nature side to put with anything else, plus it may go sailing through your netting /cage bars
