Do star finches preen one another?

Yes, they do. They also have a characteristic that is quite appealing. When a male is singing, the hen (or any other Stars nearby) will peer into the face of the singer. It looks like they are mesmerized by the song.

Sally,
That is so true! I just observed that today with our new stars. The hen looked so captivated when the male was singing. She was so cute.

I have seen that mezmerized look on Liz`s stars as well.
I can`t wait for her to get them in a breeding cage with a nest, and hear about all the beautiful babies they will make
Although, its is getting harder and harder....I`m starting to get mezmerized by these 2 as well

Re: star finches
I have a flight filled with all juvie Stars (eight of them right now)-- I call it my 'Starry Starry Flight'
and I put one mature male Star in there for the juvies to learn from him. The poor guy (adult male) hardly gets any peace; he is constantly followed and surrounded by ALL the babies but most esp. the juvie males that will normally flank him on both sides and peer intently into his face while he is singing. They fly everywhere he goes and they also work VERY hard to be the ones that are by him on the perch at all times-- a solid case of hero worship if I ever saw it ---- they kind of compete with each other to be by him. It's very sweet!
I hope they learn to sing like him -- all my male Stars have different songs but his is by far the prettiest... very warbling and bell-like.
Janine, get yourself some Stars from Liz when they breed -- everyone needs some Stars.
Star, you will be so pleased with your Stars -- they are great little finches.
I really don't know how people just stick with one kind of finch -- I like so many finches and they are all different... (God help me!)
