Male gouldian aggressive with female gouldian??

Post by Brette » Mon Jan 11, 2010 11:05 am

Can anyone tell me why my male gouldian is being aggressive to my female gouldian? They've been courting, laying eggs (none fertile) and arranging their nest which is normal, but the male also rushes at the female really aggressively and appears to be attacking her sometimes.

Is this just sexual frustration or something?

Yes, most likely the female is not yet in breeding condition. I would seperate them with a divider or another cage. Set side by side and wait until the female beaks turns dark and is interested in the male. You can tell when she is interested in that she will stare at him for long periods of time...like in a trance. She will hop onto the cage bars close to him. She may even call... 3 quick dweep, dweep, dweep.
