yellow "pied" gouldian?
yellow "pied" gouldian?
Today at a specialty bird store I purchased a red head, white breast, yellow back male that has a few dark green feathers mixed in the yellow. Is he a pied? Is this common or a flaw? I also bought a orange head, lilac breast, yellow hen. Not sure if I should pair these. They are being quarantined now but he is singing away to her. I also have a new pair of red head, purple breast, yellow backs. He is two and she is one. So far they hate each other. Is this common? I understand they like to pick their own mates.
Re: yellow "pied" gouldian?
I just read the other post on pieds.

Re: yellow "pied" gouldian?
Congrats on your new birds...glad you found a lilac breast. Sorry about the no shipping thing. You can usually find most all mutations in your part of Florida pretty easily. To get more lilacs you can breed to a white breast or a bird split to white breast. The lilac is dominant over white breast.
Most consider pied to be a dark bird with light spots. I have been told the green spots on yellows are considered a fault on yellow birds but I like them anyway
I am breeding more just to see what ever becomes of these spots.
In australia they have a Pied that looks very similar to these and some even think it was the start to the Australian Yellow. Those genetics are over my head though. I guess you can call it whatever you want...it just isn't recognized here in the states in the show circles.
Sometimes they do hate each other...but I would say that is rare. Most times they come around once in breeding condition and form good bonds. Would love to see pics of your new goulds
