Well, at some point my Soc's started giving my little Blackbelly less and less food -- I guess they decided they didn't like their little step-baby. 
So, the young BlkBelly jumped ship (literally -- jumped out of the nest) unfledged and everything. I guess he/she thought anyplace was better than where he/she was. I then started hand-feeding again and have a little weanling now. I am enclosing current pics.
I think this is a little female and have decided to call her 'Rose Red'.

Now I want fire finches! So cute. The chick look somewhat like Green Singer hatchlings except for the neon red, which is way cool. I too have two rescued finches that have done great and are very happy, despite their "non-conformity."

I took an all white Society cock, who has a bumb foot. The breeder did not want to use him for breeding and was not sure he was a "he" so, I offered to let him join my Society bunch. We call him Whitestorm because he makes such a song and always tries to out sing the other Society males. He is getting along well with the Societies, but the Spice finches bully him a little, but he bullies right back and knocks them off their branches. LOl. The other rescue is a Yellow Star hen, who has a bumb wing that will not lay flat. She has trouble flying and staying on the perch, if the other Star cock is too fast or gets too close. But, she is a trooper. She and the male and nesting and they are so sweet together.
I had only meant to purchase an Owl hen for our male, but when the breeder told me about her Disabled cage, I couldn't let them just stay there and not live a normal finch life. I love both birds. They are so cute and sweet and they don't seem to mind their disabilities, nor do the other finches. Cool.
