please identify what TYPE of finch..... society??

Post by donnaleelee » Mon Jul 18, 2011 12:30 pm

My friend just gave me a lost finch.
She found it OUTSIDE her dining room window.
We could not find the owners.
It has lost it tail from an accident (I am assuming).
Is it a society???
The strange thing is it has REALLY long feathers compared to other society finch photos I have looked up.

here are some pics......

Yes that is a Society or Bengalese finch, and a cute one! I've moved your post to the Lonchura family of finches for you. Hope that helps.

Where do you live? Maybe someone nearby knows whose bird that is, as it has a band. You could post a pic on paper around your neighborhood. If my banded finch got out, I'd be afraid it died and was a lost cause, so I'd love it if someone let me know they found it.

You could also post on Craigslist, something to the effect of "I found a finch in the _________ area. If you have lost one, please respond with a description of the finch, etc." That way they wouldn't be able to just say "oh, yeah, that's my finch" without telling you the type of finch, color, bands, and whatnot. I have seen lots of posts like this in my area for found cats, dogs, etc.

Awwww, your handfed baby zebras are SO cute! I wish I had the time to handfeed some baby zebras when mine actually lay some eggs! :)
