I agree, the little hen is very pretty too -- I like the pink beaks!

Nice. You think he is finished getting his breeding colours now? They are darker than I am used to seeing here, though granted I don't see them often.

I believe the feathers are all in but the tail has a few more inches to go .monotwine wrote:Nice. You think he is finished getting his breeding colours now? They are darker than I am used to seeing here, though granted I don't see them often.

I wonder if their plumage lightens with age. Both breeders I've visited had birds with more creamy markings. It will be intersting to see. Best wishes for your pair. I hope the hen is enthalled by his new pajama's

He's transforming into a real stunning young man! I've never seen one before. They are sure beautiful birds! when his tail is all grown in will you put him with a girl or is he already with a mate? Very interesting to see his tail growing so quickly! Do their bodies change colors too? Like a molt maybe? Do you have to feed him extra calcium?

Hi Trish, There is a pic of the female on page 1.
I also want to make note that the song of the male is loud and spectacular. There is a youtube video of the males song.
The males look like females except a little darker when not in breeding plumage. I am putting them in a larger cage today with the nests that Sally sent me. It's a long shot that they will lay but it's worth a try.

Hey he is looking lighter in those pictures. Looking good!
Here is a pic of one bird I took: So that is the same species right? I'm not that clued up with the Whydah. Your boy is looking much lighter now and comparing the two almost seem the same shade of cream. He is going to be a stunner.

I believe he is finished his molt. But not 100% sure.
He is gorgeous though.
