Look what I found today.... 2 little Zebra's

Post by ashgate » Mon Aug 01, 2011 6:40 pm

Look what I found today.... 2 little Zebra's at my local Petsmart. I'm thinking they are both male? One looks to be pied? and the other CFW?

Let me know what you think - either way they are super Cute and so tiny. They were being fed Zupreem pellets and a seed mix and a millet branch and there was orchard grass in a holder... So that is what I bought for them is there anything else that they would like to eat? any veggies, fruits other type of seeds?

They look to me like they are both male pieds, one normal and one fawn. :D They are both very cute, and congrats on your new pets! They will probably like apple (most finches do!) and leafy greens like romaine lettuce, celery leaves, and spinach (uncooked) are good treats. NEVER feed your finches avacado (its poisonous to birds). Most fruits are good for them, and you can go to the finch information center, which there is a link to on the left side of the screen. There is a list of food poisonous to finches, and lots of other helpful info!

These little finches are such a delight, I just love hearing them tweet and seeing them fly around. I am already looking into big flight cages :o) or possibly building an avairy (72"L x 30"W x 36"H) to sit ontop of a spare table I have. Do you know of links that have idea options for the bottom of a avairy... pull out trays or what? Would like it to be easy to keep clean :-)

The last few days the pied has been pulling feathers out on both sides underneath the wigs of the CFW.... is their anything i can do to get it to stop it. the cfw is starting to looked plucked and pink/flesh/red skin in those areas. Thinking maybe I should return them and just get some societies? but them think it will just continue at the store.....

well I am keeping them..... I cant put their fate in someone elses hands, I just can't do it. I'm taking out the nest they have been sleeping in encase it has made them want to breed and there is no female in there.... They will just have to get used to perch sleeping ;) They are birds afterall..... hehehe and just see if that changes anything and take it day to day...

I think the other finch is/was just trying to
build a nest out of his partners feathers!
So it was a good thing you took out the nest!
I hope the plucker will behave good, after the nest is gone..

just give the "stripped down" finch some eggfood
to regrow quicker his feathers!

I started feeding some eggfood a few days ago when I first noticed something was going on.... and I will continue and hope it helps.
