Gouldian beak color - when does it change

Post by finchandlovebird » Wed Dec 07, 2011 11:50 am

I have two molting Gouldian youngsters, both with black beaks. When do they change from light (for males) & are adult female beaks always black? Or just when ready to breed; if so, what color are female adult beaks when not in breeding?

My babies started to turn at about 3-4 months of age. The males wouldn't be fully changed over from dark until they were almost done with their first molt, and the females until they go into breeding condition go from being the juvenile dark color to being a washed through color (either red or yellow, depending on the head color).
