Baby Java Gender & Color??

Post by flrancho » Sat Jan 14, 2012 3:02 pm

The two baby Javas are about three months old now and have almost lost all of the black coloring on the beaks. They're so cute! :)

I haven't seen or heard either of them dancing or singing, but by looking at their beaks I think I can see a difference between the two.... I'm also curious about color. Mom and Dad seem to both be normal gray (though Papa has some white on his wings as do the babies, so I'm not sure if this makes him a different color or not). Anyway, I'm surprised that the babies are so lightly colored, and its making me think that maybe they won't be gray? But these are my first finch babies and I don't know much what a baby gray Java might look like.

Do any of you have any idea what color these two might be? As for gender, I suspect the one in the front might be female and the one in the back a male.... thoughts?

The one in the back looks silver to me, but I'm no expert on javas. And I think you got the gender right.
