My new CT girl

Post by CandoAviary » Sat Jan 21, 2012 8:42 pm

Here is my new cut throat girl (the one hubby saved  )

I had move the 4 boys from the busy store clutch (Mom and Dad are one round 2 of eggs) to their own cage
Image

I decided to go on and add her to the mix since she had been at paetsmart for close to 2 years :?
She is on the far right........ It was like spring break with all those young boys

I think one of the boys already has his eye on her  Check out that look he is giving her

Thanks, you can still see the white in the corners of the beak of the boys... this is left over mouth markings. They will loose this in another week.
I am really enjoying these guys. It had been years since I had any and I have always liked them.... I remember why now :D

Thank you, She seems like a very happy girl...and the boys all follow here around like she is the greatest thing ever. That kind of flattery always does a girl good

Well she sure just landed with her tail feathers in the cream!

Good on your hubby and lucky girl! One of those young boys will make a really nice mate for that lonely girl. =D>

Are you not concerned about quarantining her?

No. I had her seperate at first. Did a fecal smear..no stain. But thought keeping her seperate was a little ridculous since the petsmart here has a good quarantine, 4 weeks in the back bird quarentine room before they ever hit the sales floor. That is actually the store protocal though not all petsmarts follow it. They also buy from the Home base breeder (bird mill :( ) never from individuals.
The manger here, Scott, is one of the good guys. He doesn't know tons about birds so follows the recomendations set forth by the company. Sometimes people that think they know more tend to cut corners. They always have fresh grated veggies there, fresh water, and super clean cages. Scott said that since they quit carrying cut throats (soon to quit selling finches altogether) and she was so plain looking nobody had eve bought her..going on 2 years. So I figured if she hadn't been healthy she would have perished there a long time ago. At most I need to watch my young studly boys that don't have full immunity. She is not for sale, nor the boys. I will keep here and whoever pairs up with her to produce more.... Now that I have one breeding pair :? I need unrelated (or loosly related) CTs to be able to make unrealted pairs... and so Cando Aviary will have yet another species on the breeding grounds :D
Of course before these birds ever go there to Cando Aviary they will finish there time (quarantine) here :D
